Nearing death and armed with the desire to no longer be a “dulce extranjera,” Josephine Bracken desperately tries to write about her life in her small and shabby bedroom.

Unfortunately, she is being confused by the talkative ghost of her former lover Jose Rizal, who keeps on reminding her about the things he wrote about her.

She realizes that she is not just arguing with Rizal, she is arguing with certain truths that may not only eventually devour her but may also answer why she was and will forever be a “dulce extranjera.”
